DAY 37 (YARD WORK)

We began to clear out the side yard today so that it can be a safe and fun place for Avery to play.  I am kind of embarrassed by the before picture of the yard.  It kind of makes me feel like a redneck.  But hopefully, we can look back on this and pat ourselves on the back for all the work we did.  (When I say "we"  I mean "Scott," since he is the manpower behind it all!)  We got the yard marked by the utility company, moved the ladders and tree branches that had been conspiring a war against us for years of neglect, and filled a wheelbarrow with river rock that had been feigning usefulness around a dying Aspen tree.  Avery and I filled the wheelbarrow, and I raked up an ants' nest, but that is really all of the manual labor I did.  The rest was all Scott and Cheston.  They already took a truckload of debris (that is a fancy word for all of the crap we had in our yard) to the dump, or whatever secret place they take their unwanted material.  So the project is underway.  Though, it has transformed itself into a "clean out and build build shelves in the garage" and "elongate the fence to the front of the house" project too.  But that's okay.  All of that needs to be done too.  Why not kill 3 or four birds with one stone?  Who kills birds with stones anyway?

Avery's adventure today was riding the lawnmower.  I am posting a video of her ride with Daddy.  She absolutely loved the ride and kept asking for more.  The funny thing is: our riding lawnmower won't fit through the gate to mow the back yard.  Ha Ha.  It reminds me of that old commercial, where that guy drives his riding lawnmower down the steps of his city apartment to mow the minuscule lot of grass between the sidewalk and the street.  Anyhoo, we had a good day today, playing in dirt, throwing sticks, not to mention a few stones.  (No birds were harmed in our stone throwing, but perhaps a few ants were.)
